COLIN SHARES DREAM WITH STUDENTSFitness and fundraising enthusiast, Colin Ricketts has begun sharing his goal of walking around Australia for charity with schools across South Australia. On Tuesday and Wednesday, March 9-10, Colin traveled to Mt Gambier and spoke to more than 200 students from three schools about his life, ambitions and inspirations. Colin said he enjoyed the opportunity to share his experiences, something he intends to do a lot more of before beginning his walk in October. “It was good to get down to Mt Gambier and share my life with the students and staff of the schools and at the same time promote my walk and the cause,” he said. “They were all very welcoming ... they showed a lot of interest, asked a lot of great questions and were genuinely interested in supporting me and kids with cancer. “A lot of the students said they were keen to walk the leg from Millicent to Mt Gambier with me, while others indicated they would like to do some kind of fundraising.” Colin’s first visit to an Adelaide Hills school was on Tuesday March 2 when he was invited to speak to the students at Scott Creek Primary School. He said he thoroughly enjoyed the visit to the small school and enjoyed answering a variety of different questions. Scott Creek Primary School principal Bruce Norris said it was a fantastic opportunity for the students to have met and spoke with Colin. “He is an amazing person and the students certainly realised that,” he said. “To meet someone who is going to walk around the country for a very good cause is something they will never forget.” Colin said he would like to thank all the schools and O’Connor Airlines for making the Mt Gambier visit possible.
