BACKGROUND

It has always been a dream of Colin’s to achieve something outstanding which holds an extreme physical challenge.

So in 2002 he ran from Melbourne to Adelaide in 2 weeks to raise money for the McGuinness McDermott Foundation assisting purchase of the MRI Machine for the Adelaide Women’s & Children’s Hospital.

In 2003 Colin climbed the equivalent height of Mt Everest (8,848 metres) on a versa-climber to assist fundraising for Ryan Mugan, a 7 year old boy from the Adelaide Hills diagnosed with a Brain Tumour requiring treatment in the USA.

Then Colin set himself the biggest challenge of his life!

"Start A New Life" was created in July 2003, when Colin first commenced planning for his Charity Walk around Australia.

The motto ‘Dream’ ‘Believe’ ‘Achieve’ was applied, with a feather as the symbol to carry the dream.

Colin walked solo pushing a 3 wheel baby jogger named ‘Wilson’ and followed National Highway 1 in an anti-clockwise direction. He departed Adelaide on January 4, 2005 and returned 15,430kms and 379 days later on January 17, 2006.

Colin’s amazing feat captured the imagination of the nation as he averaged a marathon a day for over a year. To view the map, itinerary and photo gallery click here.

Colin has been inspired by his son Luke, who when an infant, was diagnosed with a Brain Tumour. Luke survived the ordeal and now leads a normal, healthy, fulfilling life.

"I wish to give other Children the same opportunity as was given to my son.... a chance at LIFE!" says Colin.

Colin's "Start A New Life" Charity Walk Around Australia raised money for Kids with Cancer, the McGuinness McDermott Foundation and Children's Hospitals around the country.
